C.J. Obasi’s ‘Mami Wata’ wins at Sundance for Cinematography

Nigerian director, C.J.Obasi has won the World Cinema Dramatic Special Jury Award for Cinematography at The 2023 Sundance Film Festival for his film “Mami Wata”. The award to the film’s cinematographer, Lili Soares, cited the film’s “ richness of…black and white images, combined with the intricate and intimate camerawork of both the performances and natural landscape, elevated this folkloric tale to an intoxicating, visual experience.”
